Washington Fitness Pool & Aqua Classes 

Aquatic classes provide a great workout and are an excellent way to stay in shape and destress. This improved sense of well-being is beneficial for both physical and mental health.

Our selection of aquatic classes provides a safe and effective way to reach fitness goals while enjoying the therapeutic benefits of the water. Whether you’re looking to get into shape or de-stress after a long day, we offer aquatics classes that provide numerous benefits to help you achieve your desired result!

Lifeguard Certification

Through videos, blended learning skills, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard.

Required Materials:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Manual (Can be purchased from www.redcrossstore.org or downloaded for free at www.americanredcross.org.)
  • Adult/Child and Infant CPR Mask (Included in cost of full certification course. If you do not have a CPR mask for the re-certification course, you can purchase one at www.redcrossstore.org or from the Wellness Center.)

Course Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 15 before the final scheduled session (proof required)
  • Attend and participate in all course sessions
  • Perform all required skills with 100% accuracy
  • Score at least 80% on the final exams
  • Perform the prerequisite testing skills. All lifeguarding participants must complete the required swimming skills prerequisite prior to taking the course:
    • Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.)
    • Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
    • Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.)
    • Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
    • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

ALL ONLINE LEARNING MODULES MUST BE COMPLETED IN ADVANCE OF THE IN-PERSON SKILLS SESSIONS.

Aqua Class Descriptions

Aqua Strong

An invigorating, low impact water fitness class that combines both strength training and cardiovascular conditioning exercises. Use the resistance of the water and a variety of aquatic equipment to challenge your strength and stamina. Your heart will pound…but your joints will not!

Aquacise

A non-impact workout that combines jogging and resistance training, and may use tools like water weights, bands, and noodles.

Aqua Flex

Held in the warm-water therapy pool. Increase flexibility, range of motion, muscle strength and overall well- being in this aquatic class that uses the natural properties of warm water in our therapy pool. Ease stress and discomfort of chronic pain, arthritis and injuries in this gentle, yet energizing aquatic class.

Aqua Zumba ®

Known as the Zumba “pool party,” Aqua Zumba gives new meaning to the idea of an exhilarating workout. Combining the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba is a fun, effective, and challenging water-based workout will have you splash dancing like a star!

H2O Challenge

A series of heart-pumping drills using a variety of equipment and utilizing the resistance of the water combined with rebounding in the lap pool.
