Pickleball is a fun, friendly, and social racquet sport where the rules are easy to follow, and the game is simple for beginners to learn! At Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center, we offer pickleball games in our gymnasium for an exciting way to maintain your fitness goals.
Pickleball is a low-impact sport that anyone can play! This post combines the elements of sports such as ping-pong, badminton, and tennis for an exciting game! This game is played singles or doubles on a court that is similar to a tennis court but much smaller in size. Rather than using rackets as you would in tennis, you will use paddles and a plastic ball to play.
Essentially, playing pickleball involves hitting the ball back and forth, much like tennis, until a player misses. When you serve the ball, you must do so underhand and below waist level. You will serve diagonally across the court. The ball must bounce before the other player can hit it back to you.
Points can only be scored when you are serving. The game is played to 11 points, and you must win the game by two points. When a point is scored, the serving team or player switches sides, moving from right to left.
You also need to remember the no volley zone or the kitchen, located within seven feet of the net. In this area, you are not allowed to volley the ball.
At Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center, our gymnasium is the perfect place to try your hand at pickleball! We recommend you wear comfortable clothes and ask that you wear athletic shoes while in the gymnasium.
You can sign up for pickleball at the front desk. We require all participants to sign in at the front desk in order to play.
