To Swim School at the Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center! We offer year-round swim lessons for all ages and stages. Classes are available Monday through Thursday and Saturday to both members and non-members of the Wellness Center. We also offer private and semi-private lessons, scheduled at your convenience. Our comprehensive collection of programs will satisfy every level of swimmer.

Parent and Child Classes (6 months – 3 years)
Parent & child to instructor ratio is 8:1. Class time is 25 minutes.
Infant (6 months – 2 years):
This interactive class is designed for little ones to become comfortable in and around the water. Emphasis is placed on learning through fun. By using songs, games and colorful equipment we introduce: floating skills, breath control, gentle submersions, and survival skills.
Toddler (2 years – 3 years)
After gaining comfort and confidence in the water, children in this class will start learning the basic body positions and movements necessary for swimming. Parents will continue to assist children in the water by encouraging alternating arm and leg movements, front and back floating with minimal support, and face and head submersion.
Preschool Classes (3 – 5 years)
Student to instructor ratio is 4:1. Class time is 25 minutes.
This introductory class is for children who are new to swimming or nervous in the water. Our goal is to develop confidence, breath control and proper body position with instructor assistance. Graduates will be able to do relaxed bobs, front float, get in the ready position, jump to teacher from the wall and relax in an assisted back float.
This class is for children who are comfortable in the water and will go underwater willingly and happily. In this level the focus is on learning proper breathing techniques, improving floating skills, kicking strength and survival skills. Graduates will be able to back float for 10 seconds, streamline with straight leg kicks, propulsive kicks on back, rollovers and turnarounds.
This level is for children who are able to swim independently and are ready to learn the basics of all four competitive strokes. Graduates will be able to swim freestyle with rollovers for 15 yards, side swimming, elementary backstroke, dolphin kicks, and breaststroke kicks.
Youth Classes (6 – 13 years)
Student to instructor ratio for Levels 1 and 2 is 4:1. Class time is 25 minutes.
Student to instructor ratio for Competitive Swimming and ACS is 6:1. Class time is 25 minutes.
The focus of this level is to build confidence and learn basic water safety skills through fun and games. Students will gradually be introduced to independent movement in the water with arm and leg actions on front and back. Graduates will be able to back float for 10 seconds, streamline with flutter kicks for 10 yards, and use alternating and combined kicks on the back.
This class focuses on introducing all four competitive strokes. Students will build endurance in preparation for swimming greater distances. Graduates will be able to swim 15 yards of freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke, breaststroke kick and dolphin kick.
In this class, emphasis will be placed on refining technique in all four competitive strokes. Graduates will be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle and elementary backstroke, perform open turns, and tread water for 2 minutes.
Advanced Competitive Swimming
Hones all six strokes so students swim greater distances with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness. Prepares students to compete with confidence at a high level. Graduates will be able to swim a continuous 100 IM, perform flip turns, and tread water for 1 minute with hands out of the water.
Student to instructor ratio is 1:1. Class time is 30 minutes.
Private swimming lessons provide the greatest flexibility and 1-on-1 attention for swimmers of any age and ability.
Student to instructor ratio is 2:1. Class time is 30 minutes.
Semi-Privates offer great flexibility and personal attention, plus it's more fun to swim with a friend! Swimmers are responsible for providing their own co-participant.

Adapted Private Swim Lessons
The Washington Health System Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center is excited to offer Adapted Private Swim Lessons! Adapted swim lessons are for children ages 6 months-14 years old with physical or cognitive disabilities. These private lessons are adapted specifically to each child’s needs. The lessons emphasize water safety skills and proper swimming concepts.

Want to mix up your lap swimming routine and learn new swimming tips? Participate in our Swim Club and each week there will be new swim workouts available on the Aquatics Bulletin Board. Whether you are a beginner or advanced swimmer, you can always improve your technique. The swim club is here to facilitate learning at your convenience.
